A Dress in a Morning

Toddler Dress - polka dot

Last week my husband’s grandmother passed away. She was greatly loved by her 6 children, 23 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren (with three more on the way!) We were blessed to know in advance when her last days came and everyone came to her side. After we returned home to Atlanta, we got word that she had passed away. This was a Tuesday afternoon and the funeral would be on Thursday morning in Savannah. We would have to leave on Wednesday to get there on time. Not much time to get things packed up and organized! Luckily my husband’s dark blue suit was dry cleaned in advance. We really aren’t the vain type, and Grandma’s funeral was NOT about the clothes we wore, but I did want the kids to be dressed suitably. This is where I hit a problem… Ella only has bright, flowery dresses! So to the sewing closet I go and I remember I have 1 yard of a black and white polka dot cotton print! Perfect. In less time it would take for me to load up the kids, drive across town in Atlanta traffic, roam from store to store in the mall trying to find a black dress for a toddler girl in the SPRINGTIME, I made one on Wednesday morning! I just love being able to sew!
By the way, the dress pattern I used was Simplicity #4243, and it is an “easy-to-sew” that is true to it’s name! The pattern includes a few dress styles for girls and a couple romper styles for boys. A great pattern all around! The pattern sizing went from xxs to L, and I used Large which is equvilent to 24 month size. It turned out great and the funeral was beautiful. Just another example of how handy it is to be able to sew in a pinch!

cute bag! the dress is darling, I used to make lots of kid clothes for my friends and niece. they are all grown now and I don’t even try to make them clothes. I do have my darling Izabella that I could sew for, so should give it a try. She will be a year old in a few months. great job with the blog. Really enjoy it. Maybe it will inspire me to sew again. Hey Arin,

You are quite creative. Good job on the blog. I think you have covered everything well and have been very detailed.
I like reading your stories. Ella’s dress is very cute.

Dear Arin,
I love your website! Beautiful clothes and adorable models! Dusty and Anson looked so handsome in their look alike shirts, and Ella was so cute in her new little dress. And I love the purses you’ve made for me (though I’m not as adorable as your other models :o ).) Keep up the good work! You’re a great wife, mom, and daughter-in-law! Love, Mom R.

I finally had a moment to sit down and look at your new site. It is wonderful. You almost inspire me to sew. But I do want to point as many people over here as I can.

We also enjoyed Gavin last week. Poor guy. I tried to let him sleep in a quiet room but instead he ended up on the living room couch where all the early birds wakened him.

Hi Arin,
I loved the fabric-like background of the blog. I think it looks and sounds great!
I might be a little “biased” though. That is a sewing term, right?
Sew long.
Love Mom

Hey, it’s letting me comment this time! Any tips for hand cranked sewing machines? Looking forward to some of your creativity rubbing off on me.
